An RUC officer died in hospital today after suffering a gunshot wound.
The incident happened at lunchtime yesterday at an RUC station in Maydown, just outside Derry city.
The man has been named as 40-year-old Mr Gary McCullough, who was married with two children.
An RUC spokesman said the shooting is not being treated as suspicious.
An investigation into the shooting has begun.
