RUC detectives are trying to determine if there is a drugs link in the murder of a west Belfast man in Dungannon, Co Tyrone, yesterday morning. Mr John Knocker (22), from Whiterock Drive, was shot dead following a fight in the car park of the Glengannon Hotel, Dungannon, at about 2 a.m.

A gunman fired at Mr Knocker as he tried to run away from the fight. He was hit and fell. As he lay on the ground, the gunman approached and shot him again. His killer escaped in a car accompanied by others. The RUC does not believe the killing to be sectarian, or that there is any republican paramilitary involvement. It is trying to establish if Mr Knocker was the victim of a dispute over drugs.
