Roscommon hotel fire under control

A fire which broke out early this morning at the Royal Hotel in Roscommon town has been brought under control.

A fire which broke out early this morning at the Royal Hotel in Roscommon town has been brought under control.

No-one was injured in the blaze which was attended by firefighters from Roscommon and Longford at around 8am this morning. However the building has sustained serious damage.

Gardaí said the fire brigade is due to leave the scene shortly.

The hotel and a number of surrounding buildings were evacuated during the blaze. Access to the Main Street was restricted and the area was closed to traffic.

A garda spokesman confirmed they are not treating the fire as suspicious. It is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault.
