Iarnrod Eireann carried out an investigation yesterday after a rock was placed on the DART line, damaging a train and delaying early morning commuters for 40 minutes.

Iarnrod Eireann officials said the rock was placed on the line at the Glenngeary side of Dalkey. It was struck at 6.30 n.m. by the first north bound train from Bray and caused substantial damage to the airlocking system on the train's brake. Engineers carried out repairs and service was resumed shortly after 7.20 a.m.

"We have informed the gardai and carried out our own investigation," said Mr Cyril Ferris, spokesman for Iarnrod Eireann.
