Guerrillas killed a US soldier and wounded another in a roadside bomb blast in northern Iraq this morning, the US army said.

In a statement, the army said the attack was near Baiji, 180 km north of Baghdad, at 7 a.m. (04.00 Irish time) this morning.

The death brought to 655 the number of US soldiers killed in action in Iraq since the invasion last year.
