The number of road deaths during September showed an increase on the corresponding period last year, according to statistics.
Last month 54 people were killed and 919 injured, compared with 40 people killed and injured in September 1995.
The nine months to September 330 people died and 7,699 were injured, compared with 315 deaths and 7,211 injuries in the same period last year.
