SEOUL - Thousands of South Korean riot police, backed by helicopters, moved into barricaded campus buildings early today to end a violent standoff by students.

They smashed their way in after bombarding the Yonsei University buildings with tear gas from helicopters.

Helicopters dropped anti terrorist teams with stun grenades onto the roof of one building.
