Gardai at Kilmainham, Dublin, last night recovered a machine gun and a rifle near the Memorial Park, Islandbridge.
The guns were found in a holdall bag during a search of waste ground which followed a tip-off to gardai and a surveillance operation. The find was made by drug squad members based at Kilmainham and it is understood there was no paramilitary involvement in the discovery. The guns will be examined later today by the Garda ballistics section.
