THE former Taoiseach, Mr Albert Reynolds, in the High Court in London yesterday, accepted £10,000 damages and an apology from the publishers of a book which described him as a liar. Guinness Publishing admitted there was no truth in the allegation contained in the Guinness Book of Political Blunders published in June.
In one chapter, it was alleged that Mr Reynolds had lied to the Dail and misled Cabinet colleagues in November 1994 over the appointment of the Attorney General as President of the High Court.
It was now accepted that a Dail inquiry had later found that Mr Reynolds had "behaved honourably during the crisis". The hearing was told that the book had since been withdrawn.
