The State's 5,000 nurse pensioners want a share in the 14 per cent pay rise awarded to 30,000 serving colleagues in the health services last February, reports Padraig Yeates. Their representatives met yesterday in Dublin to organise a campaign in pursuit of their claim.

Later, the Psychiatric Nurses' Association of Ireland pledged the support to them. It said its members would consider taking action, including a strike, in support of the pensioners. It has already agreed to support a mass demonstration at Leinster House on October 1st.
