A FRENCH restaurateur in Belfast was sent for trial yesterday accused of receiving antiques worth more than £100,000 which were stolen from stately homes in the Republic.

Mr Jean Marie Delbart (45) from Rugby Road, Belfast, faced seven charges relating to antique furniture, silver, paintings, clocks and figurines. The items included a mahogany card table valued at £6,000 belonging to the Irish Georgian Society and stolen from Castletown House, Celbridge, Kildare.

Defence solicitor Mr Barra McGrory said his client denied the charges. Mr Delbart was remained on his own bail of £200 to stand trial at Belfast Court on a date to be fixed.
