BRISBANE - Residents of Gays Road in the remote Australian mining and farming town of Emerald have forced the local council to change their street name because they were fed up with being labelled homosexuals.

The small street, named after John Gay, a civic leader from the 1930s, will now be known as Hogans Road, Emerald's mayor, Mr Paul Bell, said.
