Residents have been moved from their homes in a security alert in Belfast after police received reports of two suspicious devices in the Falls Road area.

A PSNI spokeswoman said officers were called to Ross Road, off the Falls Road, at 2am.

Homes on the Grovenor Road and Ross Road have been evacuated, and the area remains sealed off. British army bomb experts have been called to the scene.

Twenty-six people, who were mostly elderly or infirm, were taken to the Divis community centre, which was opened to accommodate the evacuated residents.

Police said the area is likely to remain closed for some time.
