New York - A Renoir painting of a woman bathing sold for $20.9 million (£21 million) twice what auctioneers had expected, at Sotheby's auction house on Thursday night.
The 1888 Baigneuse (The Bather), from Pierre Auguste Renoir's bathers series, sold to an anonymous private collector in a two-day sale of Impressionist and Modern art that totaled $155.9 million.
