Tributes were paid at the Court of Criminal Appeal yesterday to court registrar Bernard Neary, who has retired after 41 years. Mr Justice Joseph Finnegan said consideration was Mr Neary’s hallmark, saying his decision to work at an orphanage in Madagascar on retirement was “the mark of the man”.

Mr Neary began work as a registrar to Dublin Circuit Court in 1969. He is the author of several books, including Lugs – the Life and Times of Jim Branniganand Confessions of a Court Clerk.
