BONN - Chancellor Helmut Kohl indicated yesterday that he would go ahead with a radical overhaul of Germany's social welfare system despite a weekend protest rally which drew about 350,000 people from all over the country.
"It is our duty to see through the reforms that we deem necessary," Mr Kohl said in a brief statement. "We must not be sidetracked from this path."
