A report by the Referendum Commission on last October’s referendums was discussed by Cabinet yesterday.

The report, details of which were reported in The Irish Times earlier this week, complained that the time allowed to perform its functions was “grossly inadequate”.

The referendums were held on October 27th last.

A proposal giving the Government the right to cut judges’ pay was passed, while the electorate voted down an amendment giving wider scope to Oireachtas inquiries.

The commission was set up to promote public awareness of the votes. Its report is expected to be published later this week, or next week.
