The trial of former Dublin assistant county manager George Redmond on alleged corruption charges, which was scheduled to begin later this month, has been adjourned again to a date yet to be fixed.

His trial was originally due to start on July 2nd last but was adjourned to this October because of media reporting of evidence being presented in the Quarryvale module at the Mahon tribunal.

Judge Joseph Matthews has now fixed a date in November for the hearing of applications at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on legal issues surrounding this case and the October trial date has been vacated.

Mr Redmond (82) has pleaded not guilty to receiving IR£10,000 on a date between June 1st, 1985 and June 1st, 1986, as an inducement or reward for doing or forbearing to do anything in respect of a compulsory purchase order by Dublin City Council on 67.58 hectares (167 acres) of land at Bussardstown and Coolmine.

Judge Matthews adjourned the trial and set the date for hearing legal issues following submissions made yesterday by prosecuting and defence counsel.
