Freetown - The town of Lunsar in Sierra Leone fell to Mr Foday Sankoh's Revolutionary United Front (RUF) in the early hours of Wednesday after a heavy attack on inadequately prepared government forces who had captured the town only two days earlier.

Fighters in the British-advised force loyal to President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah said they had run out of ammunition in Lunsar and were overwhelmed by rebels apparently armed with weapons stolen from UN peacekeepers.
