LOS ANGELES - Former President Ronald Reagan turned 85 yesterday, planning to spend a couple of hours in his office, followed by a round of golf.

But Mr Reagan, who is suffering from Alzheimer's disease, would not be in Beverly Hills later to celebrate his birthday at a party featuring leading figures in Hollywood and Washington. The guest list included former President Gerald Ford and his wife Betty, and former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen Colin Powell.
