Mexico's famous man of letters, Carlos Fuentes, takes part in a special event organised by Cuirt International Festival of Literature in Galway today. Lecturer, essayist and diplomat, Fuentes work acts as a mirror in which Mexican society is reflected and recreated. His novels include Where the Air is Clear - a Marxist critique of human nature and The Old Gringo which subsequently became a film. His non-fiction work includes numerous short stories, plays, articles, literary and political essays. His extensive television work includes a five-part BBC series The Buried Mirror. He reads from his new book, The Years with Laura Diaz, and discusses his work with Irish Times writer and critic Eileen Battersby at the O'Flaherty Theatre, Galway, at 8 p.m. this evening.
