Keepers at Dublin Zoo are celebrating the birth of a rare bongo calf, one of Africa’s most endangered antelope species.

There are only between 75 and 140 eastern bongos left in the wild, according to Kenya’s bongo surveillance programme.

The zoo is participating in an international breeding programme to protect the animal from extinction.

The female infant was born on the African Plains habitat of the zoo in the middle of last month, weighing 20kg.
