The jury has been discharged in the trial of a teacher charged with raping a then 10-year-old girl pupil in the toilets of a west Dublin primary school 20 years ago.

Ms Justice McGuinness, at the Central Criminal Court, discharged the jury on the trial's second day when two members of the jury said they recognised a witness.

The 45-year-old man is pleading not guilty to rape, unlawful carnal knowledge, and to 11 counts of indecent assault on the girl between 1979 and 1981.

He was remanded on continuing bail.
