Mr Padraic Mac Donacha, a community activist from the Rath Cairn Gaeltacht in Co Meath, has been appointed chairman of Comhairle Raidio na Gaeltachta.

The new council was announced by RTE yesterday and will sit for three years. It includes a strong regional emphasis and almost equal representation of men and women.

The other members are Mr Nioclas O Conchubhair, Co na Gaillimhe Ms Rachel Ni Riada, Co, Chorcai, Mr Tomas O Ceilleachair, Co Phort Lairge, Ms Roise Ni Bhaoill, Beal Feirste, Ms Deirbhile Ni Chuireain Co Dhun na nGall, Ms Noirin Ni Chonghaile, Baile Atha Cliath Ms Ainead Ni Mhuirthile Luimneach, Ms Caitriona Ni Sheoighe Co Mhuigh Eo, Mr Pat Feeley, Baile Atha Cliath Mr Micheal de Mordha, Co Chiarrai Mr Padraig O Laimhin, Co Mhuigh Eo and Mr Nollaig Mac Giolla Chearra, Co Dhun na nGall.

The station staff will also be invited to select a representative.
