Three masked raiders shot dead a guard dog at a hotel in the west Cork village of Glandore early yesterday morning.

The men entered the family owned Marina Hotel at 3.30a.m, confronting staff about to leave the premises. They demanded to speak to the manager, but when the hotel's guard dog began barking, one of the raiders produced a handgun and shot the animal. The three left in a panic.

Gardai have appealed for information from anyone in the Glandore/Clonakility area who might have seen or heard anything suspicious.
