A post office raider threw out his gun and surrendered to a passing ambulance after hearing its sirens, Dublin Circuit Criminal Court has heard.

Gavin Mangan (34) was sentenced by Judge Tony Hunt to nine years for “an appalling spree of criminality”. His offences include possession of heroin and a series of robberies.
