THE women's rights officer of the Union of Students in Ireland has attacked posters advertising the Dublin Institute of Technology's rag ball on February 20th.

Ms Kellie O'Dowd said she had received numerous calls from DIT students complaining that the poster, featuring a man standing behind a half-naked woman with his arm across her breasts, was "tasteless and offensive."

She said the DTI students' union, by endorsing these posters, "seems to condone discrimination against women".

The DIT student union president, Mr Colin Joyce, said he had not received one official complaint about the poster. "I will not be taking them down for the sake of a few extremists."
