The Green Party has campaigned for years on the need for economic policies promoting "sustainable development". When the Amsterdam Treaty endorsed such an approach, MEP Patricia McKenna didn't exactly reject it in her Vote No booklet. Instead, she buried the provisions under the heading: "Why do we need a common defence?"
