Ottawa - The Supreme Court of Canada ruled yesterday that the French-speaking province of Quebec had no right to make a unilateral declaration of independence from Canada.

In a lengthy written ruling, Canada's top court said effectively that Quebec must negotiate any independence with the federal government of Canada.
