Qualceram Shires said it has “taken steps” to seek protection from creditors.

An examiner, David Hughes of Ernst & Young, has been appointed, on an interim basis, to the company and all of its Irish units.

Shares in the company were suspended yesterday after Qualceram issued a statement saying that talks with its landlord and banks were not progressing as well as it had hoped.
