SEOUL - North Korea signalled yesterday it would seek diplomatic recognition from the US, largescale food aid and an easing of trade sanctions before joining peace talks.

Four way talks between the two Koreas the US and China were proposed a year ago by President Clinton and the South Korean President, Mr Kim Young sam. The aim is to replace the truce which halted the 1950-53 Korean War with a permanent peace.
