Police officers have carried out searches of a number of addresses on the outskirts of north Belfast as part of an investigation into the planting of a bomb in England.

The searches took place in the loyalist Rathcoole Estate last night to assist an investigation by Greater Manchester police, a Police Service of Northern Ireland spokeswoman confirmed.

This followed the arrest of a man at Manchester Airport yesterday in connection with the discovery of a device under a car in Bolton on December 17th.  The man is being questioned at a police station in Manchester.

Supporters of jailed loyalist boss Johnny Adair set up home in the Bolton area after being forced to flee Northern Ireland during a violent feud.
