Paris - Protests against state violence in Algeria yesterday cast a shadow over President Abdelaziz Bouteflika's visit to France, billed as a historic attempt to reconcile Algiers and its former colonial master.
In a harsh report published on the eve of his arrival, the International Federation of Human Rights said Mr Bouteflika's policy of national reconciliation had failed to quell Islamic violence outside major cities.
