Mr Eamon Gilmore, Minister of State at the Department of the Marine, has been given, assurances by the embassies of, France, Britain and Japan that a shipment of high level radio active material bound for Japan from Caple Hague, France, will not travel through Irish territorial waters.

The material is being transported in specially designed steel containers from the French nuclear reprocessing plant at Cap le Hague to Japan on board the Pacific Teal, a UK registered vessel jointly owned by the nuclear utilities in Britain, France and Japan.
