Prison officers from the Maze and other prisons in Northern Ireland staged an hour-long demonstration yesterday morning in protest at remarks made by the governor of the Maze, Mr Martin Mogg.

Up to 300 prison officers took part in the protests at the Maze, Maghaberry prison near Lisburn, Magilligan in Co Derry and the Hydebank young offenders' detention centre in Belfast.

A number of the officers left their posts to take part in the demonstration. The protest was sparked by a recent suggestion by Mr Mogg that some prison officers may be opposed to the Belfast Agreement.
