THE Cork Environmental Alliance group has sent a "hangman's noose" to the manager of corporate services, Irish Shell, to mark the first anniversary of the execution of Ken Saro Wiwa and other Nigerian human rights activists.

The group said it sent the noose "to bring home to Mr Declan Farrell and his fellow employees the reality of the situation in Ogoniland, where Shell Oil worked hand in hand with the murderous dictatorship of Gen Sani Abacha".

The group said It supported the call from the Tanaiste, Mr Spring, for EU sanctions against Nigeria.
