The Government should use the EU presidency to protect children and fight organised international paedophilia, according to the European Forum for Child Welfare.

The group welcomed comments by Minister of State, Mr Austin Currie, that children's welfare was at "the top of the agenda". However, it warns there is little the EU can do unless it expands its legal authority to include matters relating to children.
