Criminal proceedings are being considered in the case of a man who died two weeks after sustaining head injuries outside a Mayo pub. Francis Healy (69), Behy, Ballycastle, Co Mayo, died at Beaumont Hospital on January 3rd.

He had sustained fatal head injuries in an incident outside the Seaview Lounge in Ballycastle on December 17th last year.

Gardaí in Ballina treated the death as suspicious and carried out an extensive investigation. Four people were arrested and released without charge.

At Dublin Coroner’s Court yesterday, Garda Supt Pat McHugh said criminal proceedings were being considered over the case and a file would be going to the Director of Public Prosecutions soon.

Coroner Dr Brian Farrell adjourned the matter until August 24th to allow gardaí time to finish their investigation.
