THE annual average cost of keeping a prisoner in 1995 was £44,600, the House was told. Mountjoy had the lowest cost, £44,000, followed by Limerick, £54,300. The highest was Portlaoise at £88,700, the Minister for Justice, Mrs Owen, said in a written reply to Ms Frances Fitzgerald (FG).
