A prisoner escaped from a hospital today just two months before he was due for release.

A prisoner escaped from a hospital today just two months before he was due for release.

Michael Murray (37) was under escort at Galway University Hospital when he escaped shortly after 1am.

An inmate at Castlerea Prison, Co Roscommon, Murray was serving a seven-year jail term for robbery and possession of a firearm, an offensive weapon and stolen property.

The final two years of his sentence was suspended, and he was due up for release on June 4th.

The Prison Service said he is not believed to be dangerous.
