A prisoner has admitted his role in the Mountjoy Prison riot during which five prison officers were held hostage

A prisoner has admitted his role in the Mountjoy Prison riot during which five prison officers were held hostage. Edward Ferncombe (26), of Harelawn Drive, Clondalkin was remanded in continuing custody for sentence in Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on July 29th.

He admitted a charge of false imprisonment on January 4th, 1997. A number of other prisoners are to go on trial later this year in relation to the incident.
