A priest was yesterday returned for trial on a charge of raping a woman

A priest was yesterday returned for trial on a charge of raping a woman. Father Gerard John McCallion (49) was remanded in custody following a preliminary inquiry at Derry Magistrates Court.

The defendant, a native of Lifford in Co Donegal, faces four charges, one of raping a woman and three charges of indecently assaulting her, between June 2nd and November 30th, 1987.

He was remanded in custody to appear before the city Crown Court for trial on January 27th.
