The President, Mrs Robinson, yesterday officially opened an Arts Council of Northern Ireland retrospective exhibition of paintings by the Belfast artist Mr Basil Blackshaw, in the RHA Gallagher Gallery in Dublin.

Born in 1932, Mr Blackshaw first came to prominence in a two person show in the Donegall Place gallery in 1952. He has exhibited widely in Ireland and internationally and has been the recipient of numerous honours. He is a member of Aosdana.
