Chivers Ireland has been bought by Premier Foods for an undisclosed sum.

Premier said it plans to combine Chivers with Campbell's Soups Ireland, which it bought last year, into a single Irish business.

Chivers employs 100 staff in Coolock, while Campbell's has a workforce of 145, mostly in Thurles. Premier has previously owned Chivers, but in 1999 there was a management buy-out.

Premier also announced today that it plans to close two British factories in a move putting more than 400 jobs at risk.
