A postmortem is due to be carried out this morning on the body of a prisoner (20) who died after been taken from his cell in Limerick prison yesterday.

The young inmate was pronounced dead at the Mid Western Regional Hospital at 11am yesterday.

Attempts were made to resuscitate him in his cell and in the ambulance, but he was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital in Dooradoyle.
