There has been a “noticeable” increase in parcel and packet post due to online shopping this year, An Post said.
Between five and seven million items of post a day are processed by An Post in the week leading up to Christmas – triple the normal rate of about 2.5 million items a day.
The company did not have full figures to indicate the actual increase in parcel post, however.
Today is the last date for posting letters, cards and parcels for delivery in the Republic and in the North before Christmas.
Wednesday, December 22nd is the final date for both express and courier post for delivery in the Republic by Christmas. For the North, the final express post date is Wednesday and the final courier post date is Thursday.
