MADRID - Pope John Paul is "seriously ill" and suffering from a form of cancer, "possibly of the colon," but his death does not seem imminent, a Jesuit priest has told a Spanish newspaper. Father Pedro Miguel Lamet, writing in Diario 16, said that it was "a secret known to all at the Vatican" that the Pope was suffering from cancer, "possibly complicated by Parkinson's disease".
