BRUSSELS - The former head of the socialist party in the French speaking part of Belgium said yesterday he had been charged with corruption.

Mr Guy Spitaels (65) refused to elaborate, saying only he had been indicted for alleged "passive corruption" as part of an ongoing investigation. But on Friday he was questioned for nine hours over a long running scandal involving the military aviation contractors Dassault of France and Augusta of Italy.
