Poland's ruling conservatives have said they may call early elections if sexual misconduct accusations against a deputy prime minister from a smaller coalition party are confirmed.

Public prosecutors began an investigation this week into allegations that Self-Defence leader and Deputy Prime Minister Andrzej Lepper and a colleague employed female party workers in return for sex.

Mr Lepper denies the accusations.

"If accusations against Andrzej Lepper prove true, we will consider calling early elections," Adam Lipinski, a cabinet minister and a deputy chief of the ruling Law and Justice party said.
