Efforts will continue today to identify the body found in the car of missing Armagh man Mr Gareth O'Connor.

Police divers will return to the Newry canal today where Mr O'Connor's blue Volkswagen Golf car was discovered by police scuba divers at the weekend.

Gareth O'Connor (24), the father of two children, went missing in May 2003 as he drove to Dundalk to answer bail conditions on charges of "Real IRA" membership.

It is believed that he was abducted somewhere near Newtownhamilton in Co Armagh.

Police believe the Provisional IRA killed Mr O'Connor. However, the IRA has denied responsibility.

The vehicle was taken away for forensic examination.

DNA tests are due to be carried out today, after a post mortem failed to identify the body.
